Speaker care, explained simply

  • Phone speaker crackling after rain

Phone speaker crackling after rain is a reason to dry the phone before you chase the sound with a long tone. Power the phone off if it was soaked, wipe the ports and the grille, and let it sit. When you turn it on, run one Water Eject pass from the cleaner with the grille…

  • Test a phone speaker in the browser

You can test a phone speaker in the browser with the Sound Test button. It plays about four seconds of the selected tone so you can hear whether the grille is blocked before you commit to a full minute. Open the My Sound Fix tool, set the volume lower for a check than you would…

  • Android speaker sounds dusty

An Android speaker that sounds dusty often has lint in the mesh, not a software bug. Brush the grille with a dry, soft brush. Then open the cleaner and switch to Dust Pulse. The bursts are a 280 Hz tone with the volume you set. Hold the speaker down so loosened grit can fall out.…

  • A safe frequency to remove water from a speaker

A safe frequency to remove water from a speaker, in this tool, is an ordinary audible tone around 165 Hz. It is not ultrasound and it is not a medical claim. The speaker cone moves, which can shake a drop off the grille. The risk is loudness, so the warning sits above Start and the…

Good to know before you play

How often should I clean my speakers?

When the speaker sounds muffled after water, sweat, or dust. Many people run a short pass after getting the phone wet, then stop once the sound is clear again.

Is it safe for my phone?

ClearWave plays a normal audible tone. Keep the speaker away from your ear, set a volume you can stand, and stop if the phone gets hot or the sound breaks up.

Will a tone get water out of a phone speaker?

It can help when water is near the grille. The 165 Hz tone moves the speaker cone. It will not dry a soaked circuit board. Open the cleaner, turn volume up, and point the speaker down.

Do I need an app?

No. The cleaner runs in the browser. There is nothing to install and no account.

Does this work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It works in Safari, Chrome, and other modern browsers that can play audio. On iPhone, tap Start yourself so the browser can unlock sound.

What if the speaker still sounds muffled?

Wipe the outside, run one more pass, wait, then try a voice note. If it is still dull the next day, water may be past the grille. Guides on the blog cover what to try next.

Is 165 Hz the only frequency?

Water Eject uses about 165 Hz. Dust Pulse uses a higher pulsed tone. Sound Test plays a short check of the mode you selected.

Where are the longer guides?

The blog has guides on water, dust, iPhone, Android, and a browser sound check. Four of the newest ones are listed above.
